Trying Personal Trainer Food

I was excited to get to try out Personal Trainer Food, a subscription box of high-protein, un processed healthy food for weight loss and increased fitness.  I’m not particularly worried about my weight these days, but I worry a lot about staying healthy. Especially in these endless months of staying at home and limited activities and endless pandemic stress, it’s not easy to prioritize health.  I’m also hiking a lot more these days (years???), since it’s one of my few hobbies that’s definitely covid safe, and I’d like to become fitter so I can do more and not be completely exhausted after a hike. Personal Trainer Food suggests tracking changes like increased energy instead of solely weight loss, so it looks like a good fitness program for me.

So I choose and ordered the Personal Trainer Food easily. The goal of this meal box is to replace processed food with healthier, high-protein, low-carb meals. So most of the meals are eggs and meat, with veggie sides. You can see all the food choices here. Everything is already portioned out. The instructions also say what else you can eat and drink, too, which is mostly staying away from other carbs during the program. If you want to eat out or have a snack during the program, there’s a list of suggested foods to eat as well as things to reduce or cut out entirely. I was pretty happy to see that nuts were a suggested snack, since I already them, but it will be hard to stay away from fruit, besides the 1 apple per day allowed. I usually eat fruit for breakfast and sometimes for snacks.

Along with the food, the health instructions are to follow the Personal Trainer Food Guidelines to Success. This promises to help change routines and habits for a healthier lifestyle.  The exercise goal is to walk 2000 steps per day. I already walk more than 2000 steps per day, though. The program says not to try to do intense workouts, so I decided to add an extra 1000 steps or so a day during the program. I’ve been trying to add a bit more exercise anyway, since the pandemic took my walking commute.

The health instructions say to stick to the Personal Trainer Food program without cheating, but not to weigh yourself every day. Just weigh yourself at the beginning and the end of the program. I’m mostly trying this to gain more strength and energy by eating a healthier less-processed diet but it’s a good idea not to step on the scale too much in general. Weight fluctuates throughout the day, and it can be stressful to think about it too much.

Everything from Personal Trainer Food arrived in an insolated cold box, and everything was very cold.  All the food is ready to go right into the freezer, it’s already prepped and ready. Each part goes in the microwave to make eating healthy meals very fast and convenient. So you could have a breakfast omelet and sausage ready in 2 minutes. But you can also add other sauces and ingredients, as long as it follows the high-protein, low-carb, unprocessed rules.
